Description of Trattoria Ten, Chicago, Night Out On The Town

On special occasions, I love to dine at Trattoria Ten, which is a top restaurant in the heart of downtown Chicago. So I knew I had to get out the canvas and paint this wonderful old Italian restaurant. The interior features a dramatic sculpture-like column and beam structure. It visually anchors the surrounding, sophisticated atmosphere that features diners and bustling waitstaff. I am an architect, as well as an artist, and I used my architectural skills to portray the proportions and depth of this charming scene. I used a lively palette of contrasting yellow and blue colors to convey the excitement of these special occasions. In this painting I combined elements of abstract and representational art. The objects and shapes are readily recognizable, but are painted in a stylized manner with outlines in strong dark lines. I enhance the dramatic contrasting colors by using black paint on the sides of the canvas, so that it can be hung without a frame. The painting is part of my series, “Night Out On The Town.”
Shipped as is in the U.S. However, in order to keep shipping rates low for international sales, this painting is shipped as a rolled canvas. The rolled canvas is wrapped around wooden stretcher bars that can be used to re-stretch it after arrival.
