Real People 2011 Exhibit, Opening Reception This Saturday From 7 To 9

The Real People 2011 exhibit at the Old Court House Arts Center in Woodstock, Illinois, continues until September 25th.  The Opening Reception is this Saturday August 27 from 7 to 9, and coincides with the Woodstock Jazz Festival.  My oil painting, Youthful Thoughts, is on display.  Youthful Thoughts is a figurative painting of a nude man standing.  The painting portrays a very restful young person who seemed completely at ease and deep in thought.  I used a strong contrast of light and dark, to the point that the painting combines abstract and representational art.

The Real People exhibit is sponsored by the Northwest Area Arts Council and is a national exhibit, celebrating the arts through faces and figures. It received over 400 entries from artists across the country. Of that number, approximately 80 entries were selected for exhibit.  The jurors for this year’s exhibit were:

Dan Addington – Dan is the owner and director of the Addington Gallery located in downtown Chicago and is also an artist who has lived in Chicago since 1993.

Laura Kina – Laura is an Associate Professor of Art, Media and Design at DePaul University in Chicago, and is an artist with an extensive body of work and numerous shows under her belt.

Rodger Bechtold – Rodger is a well-respected local Woodstock artist with extensive experience as a painter.

The Workshop for Contemporary Artists annual members’ show and the annual members’ show of Claymirth, a St. Charles-based ceramics guild will run in conjunction with Real People.

About Woodstock, Illinois

First-time visitors to Woodstock, Illinois usually get a sense of déjà vu if they ever watched the hilarious Harold Ramis movie, “Groundhog Day” starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell.  Woodstock has a charming downtown square with a green park at its center. One of the landmark buildings is the old court house, which is now an art center.
