Insider Art At Union Street Gallery June 22 – July 23, 2016

Cobb Hall, UChicago … on display at Insider Art

Cobb Hall at the University of Chicago was designed by architect Henry Ives Cobb, and is the oldest building on campus.  Cobb modeled his designs after the Gothic style of architecture at Oxford in England.  When I paint the buildings on the UChicago quads, I like to contrast the traditional Gothic buildings with the youth and vitality of the students.  I contrast the old and the new, tradition and change, with the students’ electronic devices as a symbol of change.

Opening Reception for  Insider Art

You’re invited to our “Insider Art” exhibit at Union Street Gallery.

When: We hope you will join us for the Artists’ Reception on the afternoon of Saturday, June 25,  2-6pm. Come and enjoy this exciting show! The exhibit continues until July 23.

What:   Insider Art is an eclectic mix of fun and inspiring work by Union Street Gallery Studio & Guild Artists. The reception is free and open to the public.  This annual exhibit showcases the artists’ most recent work as well as older work shown in new and exciting ways. The work in the show highlights a diverse mix of approaches to subjects, media and styles and includes painting, drawing, pastel, photography, collage, sculpture, and found object assemblage.  There will be refreshments and the artists will be present to talk about their work.

My UChicago paintings, “Cobb Hall” and “Over The Top” are on display. These paintings are inspired by the beauty of the Gothic Revival architecture in the Main Quadrangle, symbolizing the conservative traditions and stable framework of the university, contrasting with the life and vibrancy of the ever-changing student population, illustrated with their multiple electronic devices, backpacks, and diversity.
