New paintings in my Networks series are on display at CornerStone Art Gallery.

When:  Opening reception this Friday, October 11, 6-8:30 pm, the exhibit continues until November 15th.

Where:  CornerStone Art Gallery is located in the lobby of the Centier Bank Building at 1500 119th Street in the Historic Downtown District of Whiting, Indiana. My artworks are in the East Gallery.

What:  Networks & Other Works.  My new abstract art explores the theme of networks.  In this series, I use painted networks to create a single result from its many individual lines. Just as a social network of thousands and thousands of individuals creates a phenomena, such as making Justin Bieber an instant star, or fomenting a  revolution in Tunisia, I use a network of random lines that all join together to create an unexpected result, or in my case, a surprise image.

I start by applying swatches of color to the canvas in a random but controlled composition.  Then, using a single color, I start outlining these swatches. Eventually, a figure or scene starts to emerge as the lines are laid in, just as a social network starts to take on a life of its own to create its final phenomena.  Like reading a Rorschach inkblot, my subconscious offers up a recognizable shape or scene from the materializing network.  In this process, my painting Loopy Llama, evolved.

I will be displaying art from other genres as well.  Also, Brenda Farris, sculptor, is displaying her art In the center gallery at CornerStone. In her Replay exhibit all the artwork is upcycled and has at least 80% recycled materials in it.

The Whiting ArtWalk is also this Friday.  This event involves Arts Alive, 119th  Street Artists and Studio 659. Artists will display artwork in storefronts along the 119th Street between CornerStone Art Gallery and Studio 659.  Studio 659 will be open until 7 pm;  the current exhibit at Studio 659 is the Day Of The Dead show.

About CornerStone Art Gallery.  Cornerstone Art Center & Gallery is located about 30 minutes outside of Chicago in NW Indiana in the Historic Downtown District of Whiting, Indiana.  The center is organized by the 119th Street Artists, a non-profit group that seeks to bring an appreciation of the fine arts to people in all walks of life and to provide support and encouragement to Midwestern artists.
