12” by 12” Art Showcase at GACI Gallery: Opening Reception, Friday 12/4, 5-8:00

You’re invited!

When:  Opening reception is this Friday, Dec. 4, 5 to 8:00. Come and see our art!   This reception is free and open to the public. My photographs of the University of Chicago quadrangle are on display in this group exhibit.

What:   The reception for the 12” by 12” Art Showcase is at GACI Gallery, which is a new gallery in downtown Chicago.  The gallery is directed by Miyeon Kwon and aims to feature the work of local and international artists. Gallery Hours: Tue – Sat 11 am to 7 pm and Sun 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.  It is hosted by Prak-sis Contemporary Art Association.

My photography presents the traditional Gothic architecture at the University of Chicago using a contemporary approach. The architecture functions as a metaphor for the established framework and traditions of the university. My photos focus on architectural gems like Bond Chapel and Cobb Hall and feature Gothic details, such as gargoyles, tracery and turrets.  I have manipulated these digital images to create unusual lighting, colors, and jumps in color gradation. In this process, my digital art provides a dramatic contemporary, presentation of this century-old architectural order.

Where:   GACI gallery is located at 6 W. Ontario in Chicago.  It is just above the Redhead Piano Bar and about two blocks west of the “Magnificent Mile,” Michigan Avenue, in the River North area of downtown Chicago.

Participating Artists

Lisa Barcy, Maria Fragoudaki, Dough Frohman, Jane Erica Huntzinger, Avisheh Mohsenin, Diane Ponder, Leon Sarantos, Michelle Stone, and Jeongyin Yi.
